Unlike many global cities, served by an extensive public transport network, the city of São Paulo still has limitations that are not easy to overcome for those who visit it for the first time.

Adding this to the fact that your Portuguese might be non-existent or it is pretty rusty, the start of your trip can become quite a challenge!

But rest assured! In this post we will detail the best options available so that you can reach your final destination as quickly as possible, departing from the international airport of São Paulo (GRU)

1. By Train

Since Dec 1st, 2020, the service that connects GRU airport to the main train station in São Paulo, the Luz station, has resumed.

The trip is 30 minutes long and costs only BRL$ 4.40 (December 2020). The first departure, both from GRU airport and from Luz station, takes place at 5am and the last takes place at midnight, adding up to a total of 20 daily trips.

The trains are new and comfortable and each car has a luggage compartment and the capacity to carry up to 2,000 passengers per trip. Train occupancy is still low (December 2020), which means plenty of space for users.

The great advantage of this service, especially on heavy traffic days, is the fact that the journey is much faster than if done in automotive vehicles.

4. Uber and Similar Apps

A few years ago, transportation options from the GRU airport to São Paulo were scarce and expensive. Transport apps have arrived to change this scenario, making travel costs cheaper. The average fare is half the cost of the taxi and the waiting time does not normally exceed 10 to 15 minutes.

Uber and 99 app have marked and easily located points for boarding and disembarking at GRU aiport.

5. Private Transfer w/Bilingual Driver

This is certainly the service that offers more convenience and ease to travelers; from the moment you arrive, you will be welcomed by a bilingual and knowledgeable professional from the city of São Paulo. Although more expensive, this option is worth the comfort and convenience offered, making the start of your trip more peaceful and fluid.
