Our best day in São Paulo was the day we spent with Vicky exploring a local food market and preparing a Brazilian meal. We were staying in São Paulo for three weeks on business and I arranged a tasting tour and meal for our first Sunday in São Paulo. Vicky picked us up promptly at 10 am and drove us to one of São Paulo's best destinations, the Municipal Mercado. The Mercado is housed in a beautiful old building filled with sellers of fruits, cured meats, cheeses, nuts, and seafood. Having the opportunity to tour this vibrant market with a local chef who is fluent in both English and Portuguese was quite a treat. As we strolled through the market, Vicky identified the unfamiliar and arranged tastings with the shopkeepers. She pointed out local specialities and explained the traditional foods. She also helped me make some purchases to bring back to my own little kitchen.
After our visit to the market, Vicky took us to her lovely apartment where her assistant chef had assembled all the ingredients for Passion Fruit caipirinhas and a traditional Brazilian meal. We sautéed, sipped, stirred and chatted, then we gathered around the table and shared a delicious Sunday dinner. We returned to our hotel feeling much more comfortably at home in São Paulo
